Ted Kennedy-Losses in Democratic Leadership

It is highly unlikely we will see another soldier like Ted Kennedy champion the causes of those less fortunate for this society has become a profit driven greed machine and its politicians are patsies for big corporations.

Just recently I read ” Ted Kennedy Leadership Lessons” by Roasabeth Moss Kanters in the Harvard Business and her reference to his devotion to health care reformation.

In reference to Roasabeth Moss Kanters article Friday August 28, 2009 on the eave of Ted Kennedy’s funeral makes you ponder the question of ethics as well as leadership in politics.

Where have all the brave young men gone?  Where are the Ted Kennedy’s of the year 2009?  You do not see many Harvard grads going into politics because of their sense of duty to mankind as Kennedy’s did nor is it acceptable to be a “champion of the poor“.

In fact in today’s ipod society we barely care what is outside our ear plugs, and pictures of the Iraq war have numbed us into a false sense of patriotism.

As Rosabeth discovered Kennedy never realized his life’s goal before his death but he came close.  After 40 years of inching closer and closer to a national health care plan Kennedy must have been disappointed to learn that through our George Bush phase- Iraq citizens came before Americans.  The war rebuilding funds included health care for Iraq’s and after the US is finished paying for the war incited by the Bush, Cheney-Rumsfeld Three Stooges -we could have paid for healthcare 10 times over and again.

The goals of Ted Kennedy through public service in the sixties and seventies were for the common good, the same standards of health for all people, equality for black America and many more which protected the most vunerable.

As we see now the opposition to health care reform coming from the likes of John McCain and the Sarah Palin’s of that party is fueled by the large corporations who run health care in America.  No where else in the world do corporations have such control of vital life line’s of a country such as Finance, Health, Insurance and drug companies wheild such power with their campaign contributions to politicans.

As many have said ” we shall not see another like him” rings true -because his cause was not out of money, greed, power but it was born out of a need to serve through his own leadership the needs of many of his fellow Americans.
