Feb. 25, 2010 President Obama finally opened the doors to the public and it was about time people got to see the inside discrepancies of both parties on health care reform.
The usual pandering to the cameras revealed the one point people are already aware of and that is the delays in forming a good health care bill has much to do with political posturing. The Republicans want their version which limits patient lawsuits know as tort reform. This basically cuts the individual’s rights to sue for malpractice in case your doctor botches your surgery or cuts off the wrong leg. This should not be limited at all, but it is a republican key which they want in the health bill.
The fraud certainly can be cut out -but not people’s rights to sue, torte reform is all about limiting rights. The fake insurance claims can be handled by insurance companies themselves but they want the benefit of the government doing it for them which is not necessary. Large insurance company’s have teams of lawyers they can sort claims out in court -its not the government’s business to get into the legalities of claims.
There is very little that the Repbulicans dispute in this bill, cost is not one of them because their alternative is to allow costs to go higher. In this economy the Republican view favors rich people who can afford more not the people losing their coverage when they lose their jobs.
The Health care summit can only improve communication of what each party wants and more importantly what the American voter -said in November 2009 with their vote. The health care insurance industry is out of control and will break American families and the economy. Health care must be overhauled and now -not in years down the road. Republican candidates and some Democratic blue dogs are representing insurance company interests for profit not for the good of Americans.
These politicians must realize that they will be voted out in November if they do not pass a viable health care bill that will help Americans -not the insurance industry. Many countries around the world have universal health care, including Iraq. In Iraq each man, woman and child is covered for health service thanks to the American taxpayer and China.
It is time for Republicans and Democrats to pass this bill, stop saying NO, and do the people’s work -this broke government must work effectively for the people not for corporate interests. We have seen Wall Street bailed out with no benefit such as the trickle down Reagan theory.
The Democrats are in power and must use their collective power to pass this reform for the first time in 50 or more years -health care will be for every person -not just the rich.
