BP ties to Goldman and Corexit

June 12, 2010 BP ties into Goldman and the corexit dispersant they are using is due to the fact that they are profiting from the chemical used in the Gulf. Corexit is made by the Nalco Company that is headed by executives from BP Oil and another well known oil company Exxon. Nalco’s headquarters are in Illinois of all places familiar to President Obama in fact right in his backyard.

Nalco Makes Corexit-A Deadly Chemical-BP Has Financial Interests

These ties have not been investigated but BP refuses to use less harmful chemicals in fact Corexit 9500 is being used which will not remove the oil-it spreads the oil throughout the gulf which is making matters worse. BP’s purchases of 1 million gallons of Corexit came from a company they have close ties with financially which is to their advantage. If you visit Nalco’s website you will find they call these chemicals are used in “oil recovery”. This is not an oil recovery chemical it actually breaks up the oil in smaller droplets which are harder to clean and remove and if the EPA believes this description they are dreaming in technicolor. Nalco also claims they are rated in the top 100 in Newsweek’s 2009 Green Rankings which is a plain and simple joke.

These facts should be investigated by the Attorney General of the United States if they are to investigate why BP is using this dispersant at all. The outrage of BP using a toxic chemical with toxic oil in itself is beyond the pale and is angering more Americans after all the failures of BP to correct their own mistakes.

Nalco formed a joint partnership with Exxon Chemical in 1994 which included a BP executive on the board as well as an Exxon executive.  Who is directing these mergers, investments and profits is none other than Goldman Sachs through Blackstone Group and the Apollo Management

Is the EPA a co-conspirator here by allowing Corexit 9500 to be used or are they taking orders from BP Oil? Is the US agency EPA not supposed to be a government run agency or is it being run by corporations? For that matter, is the US government being run by corporate interests or is it working for preventing a global degradation of the environment?

A BP spokesperson Joe Pack endorses BP’s use of Corexit and stated to the media that is is an effective low toxic dispersant which simply is not true, Corexit is a solvent and solvents are toxic no matter how you spin it to BP’s advantage. BP is in the chemical and oil business and would you expect the truth from this corporation?  This is one circle of corporate power intermingled at the top with the same people and the same companies profiting from a disaster they caused.

The EPA is ignorant of these facts or chooses to ignore the reality of using more chemicals which will kill wildlife, make humans sick and kills any spawning fish.  The chemical mixture has already sickened clean up workers with causing breathing problems, vomiting, fatigue and the toxicity has killed fish and wildlife.

Why the EPA has allowed this shows their incompetence, ignorance and support of BP oil’s decisions no matter how wrong they are and how long the oil spills into the Gulf of Mexico.  This oil spill is not only a wake up call it represents a pail of cold water in the face of Americans and their use of fossil fuels as an outdated form of energy.  Solar panels do not cause oil spills, wind turbines do not cause oil spills with that blackish gooey mess.

olar panels and wind turbines do not kill fish, or wildlife or people. It is of little comfort to know that BP, Exxon, Goldman, and Nalco all will profit from the chemicals used in the Gulf -either way they profit.

Dispersants Sickens Fisherman

Original Post: June 3, 2010, Revised: August 21, 2012

The dispersants used by BP Oil are sickening fisherman along the coast who are frantically trying to stop the oil from killing their marshes and livelihood. The very word, dispersant indicates that these chemicals spread the oil and disperse it, mostly sinking it to the bottom of the ocean.

BP has forced workers to work without protective masks for fear it would signal that the chemical was indeed that dangerous but they should be wearing masks. BP oil’s CEO Tony Hayward has stated this chemical is as safe as dish washing soap which is totally a lie.

Millions of Gallons of Corexit 9500 used in the Gulf by BP Oil -they refuse to stop using it.

Life begins in the marshes for oysters, shrimp and marine animals that feed on plankton in the marshes which is now declared in certain areas as a dead marsh.  This damage is permanent and it is highly unlikely the marshes will come back to life in the future.  The damage is done.

If it is not the toxic crude oil that clean up workers and fisherman are exposed to it is the deadly dispersant known as Corexit 9500 which was used during the Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska.  This dispersant was tested and abandoned  in 1989 and testing it today seems implausible knowing the effects of this chemical.

This particular dispersant Corexit 9500 has deadly consequences and side effects for the workers who are breathing it and now it is in the waters.

See our previous article BP Using Toxic Corexit 9500

Side Effects of Dispersant Corexit 9500:

Kidney damage, nausea, central nervous system depression, unconsciousness, and more certain it will cause cancer as most chemicals today will have that effect.

There are safe methods of eating the oil and getting rid of it because this dispersant Corexit 9500 will only spread the oil around and sink it to the bottom of the water which does not get rid of the problem.  BP has scoffed at hay, and Kevin Costner’s machine to dissolve the oil as well as other dredging and stronger booms while they continue to destroy the Gulf waters.

Comments: Anyone else notice the darth cheney family has been mighty silent lately?

Obviously too bad the corporatist government gives BP liability limits.

BP should pay for everything.

Hell yeah! I’d support an armed take over of every asset BP has and then hand it over to federal and state governments to try to begin to rebuild those natural treasures of the Gulf that have been tragically corrupted.

They deserve nothing but asset seizure and prison sentences for what they’ve done to the poeople, the industry, the wildlife and nature preserves.

There are rumors that BP would not allow anyone who was wearing protective gear to work on the site?

BP Using Toxic Corexit 9500

May 31, 2010 BP using toxic Corexit 9500 is a huge mistake by the EPA, the Obama administration is being given bad advice and the clean up crews are getting very sick from breathing the fumes.  More people in Louisiana have been getting sick yesterday and today from the chemical fumes as they try to clean up the oil on shores and inlets.

Corexit 9500 Being Dumped into the Gulf of Mexico

Corexit 9500 has highly toxic side effects and BP keeps on dumping millions of gallons of this dispersant for a reason, it is spreading the oil mess and it is killing off the wildlife faster.

The Corexit 9500 has not been used in these quantities is keeping the oil in the water column and making matters worse.  If the US government continues to allow this deliberate attempt at destroying the Gulf there will be hell to pay.

BP Oil is also not providing masks for the clean up crew they are hiring and this is not the correct procedure in handling this oil spill.  The toxins alone will affect people, animals and will be in the waters of the Gulf.

Here are the handling requirements from the EPA Emergency Management site:

1. Flammability:
IMO: Non-flammable; DOT: Non-hazardous.
2. Ventilation:
Use with ventilation equal to unobstructed outdoors in moderate breeze.
3. Skin and eye contact; protective clothing; treatment in case of contact:
Avoid eye contact. In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with large amounts of water for at least 15 minutes. Get prompt medical attention. Avoid contact with skin and clothing. In case of skin contact, immediately flush with large amounts of water, and soap if available. Remove contaminated clothing, including shoes, after flushing has begun. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. For open systems where contact is likely, wear long sleeve shirt, chemical resistant gloves, and chemical protective goggles.
4.a. Maximum storage temperature: 170ºF
4.b. Minimum storage temperature: -30ºF
4.c. Optimum storage temperature range: 40ºF to 100ºF
4.d. Temperatures of phase separations and chemical changes: None

The chemical has arsenic in it and this will alone poison the water column for fish and mammals.
