Feb 3, 2012 In a reversal of their position on defunding Planned Parenthood that causes a major, major backlash on the public’s view, Susan G. Komen now says it will fund Planned Parenthood.
Apparently in less than 48 hours Susan G. Komen has destroyed all they worked for, destroyed their brand and helped to sway women to donate to Planned Parenthood.
Their site was also hacked and they have created a huge backlash on social media networks by the millions people tweeted, and unfriended them on Facebook.
The news came as a blog post on their site that read:
“We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women’s lives.
The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.
Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.”
However, the reversal does not include the facts:
The Susan G. Komen charity also donated 7.5 million dollars to Penn State University, nothing to do with the fact that they are under many investigations for child rapes on the campus by Jerry Sandusky.
The foundation had nothing to say about that in their statement, however investigating Susan G. Komen is probably in order. They must take back the 7.5 million dollars they donated to Penn State and find some decency and give it to Planned Parenthood instead for the work they do.
The fact that they sponsor or license a gun site online that sells Pink Guns, for fundraisers also does not sit well with their image to help breast cancer patients. What woman would buy a gun to save a breast? Outrageously, SGK has licensed many of these organizations to use their brand, their trademark and most often helps the corporation more than it fundraises for breast cancer research.
In out last article we exposed where the revenues are actually going in the Susan Komen organization, which reveals very little goes to research for a cure.
Komen goes on to say in their statement
“Our only goal for our granting process is to support women and families in the fight against breast cancer. Amending our criteria will ensure that politics has no place in our grant process. We will continue to fund existing grants, including those of Planned Parenthood, and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants, while maintaining the ability of our affiliates to make funding decisions that meet the needs of their communities.”
Komen Critical News yesterday “they should be ashamed of themselves” “Shredding Pink ribbons” and the founder Nancy Brinker denied the reasons behind the move to cut Planned Parenthood.
“we’re not a political organization” says Nancy Brinker on the national television shows to repair the damage but it was too late. Her denials that their decision was a political one was not believed by the public.
In fact Susan G. Komen opened up a hornet’s nest mainly in calls for them to open the books and disclose who they are funding such as the Penn State grant of 7.5 million. How does funding this particular University that is under investigation for child rapes help breast cancer women?
What did Penn State do with the money and who benefited directly? Penn State does not help women with breast cancer by providing screening, breast exams, mammograms or otherwise there is no direct help for women with this 7.5 million dollar donation.
Komen was trying to find a way to cut Planned Parenthood and was infiltrated by republican Pro-Life groups behind the scene.
The day after the Komen announcement, donations came fast and furious to Planned Parenthood of over 1 Million dollars and counting. More women are now finding that Planned Parenthood is where their money should go not Susan G. Komen.
This turned out to be a giant mistake and egg on the faces of the Komen heiracrchy for choosing a pro-life political movement to side with and cut funding to a group that actually saves lives for women with breast cancer.
Susan G. Komen has targeted all age groups to give to their “charitable organization” which has already degraded themselves in the eyes of the public.
Komen should be investigated for selling guns as fundraising efforts by conservative gun sellers on the internet. This is the Susan B. Komen fundraising effort selling guns for breast cancer patients.
