This morning Mitt Romney’s campaign manager Eric Fehrnstrom clarified the Romney camp message and completely blows the GOP Party commentary on network media that the Affordable HealthCare Act includes a tax.
Eric Fehrnstrom the Campaign Manager for the Romney Election Campaign for the republican party, disagrees with the republican interpretation of what is a: Tax and what is a Penalty.
Fehrnstrom reconfirmed this morning, that the Obamacare ACA Affordable Care Act produces a; Penalty rather than a tax.
At least one man reads the dictionary in English and this leaves the GOP party leaders with Egg on their faces for attempting to twist the wording of Chief Justice John Roberts wording in his affirmation of the new healthcare law. In an interview with Chuck Todd, Fehrnstrom’s comments went like this:
Romney Camp: It’s Not a Tax in 2008
Romney said in this clip from 2008
“Don’t be free riders and pass on the cost of your free healthcare to everybody else” “You can pay your own way”.
In 2009 Romney said in his own OP-Ed in USA Today: “using tax penalties as we did, or tax credits as others have proposed encourages Free Riders to take responsibility for themselves rather than pass their medical costs on to others. This doesn’t cost the Government a single dollar”.
Eric Fehrnstrom response to the question of tax or penalty said this:
“The Governor was very clear on many different occasion since the passage of the healthcare reforms in Mass in 2006, what we did works in Mass, works for Mass, it might not necessarily work in California…”
Chuck Todd: “the Governor TODD: The governor does not believe the mandate is a tax — that’s what you’re saying?
FEHRNSTROM: The governor believes what we put in place in Massachusetts was a penalty and he disagrees with the Court’s ruling that the mandate was a tax. [...]
TODD: But he agrees with the president that it is not — and he believes that you should not call the tax penalty a tax, you should call it a penalty or a fee or a fine?
FEHRNSTROM: That’s correct. But the president also needs to be held accountable for his contradictory statements. He has described it variously as a penalty and as a tax. He needs to reconcile those two very different statements.”
The Romney camp today re-affirmed that the penalty for free riders is NOT A TAX, it is a penalty!!
The GOP leaders, John Boeher, Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan and Eric Cantor have all been disagreeing with the Supreme Court decision and claim it is a big tax hike for Americans which is erroneous, misleading and meant to inflame Americans against the Affordable Healthcare Bill.Photo: Eric Ferhrnstrom on MSNBC today, July 2, 2012
Can we all say “Egg all Over Your Face to the GOP Party?” and the media for promoting such misconstrued language in false claims against healthcare.
Romney disagrees with the Healthcare plan, although the same penalties applied in his Romneycare Healthcare bill in 2006 and he clearly outlines the definition of a penalty.
Basically for American voters, it comes down to the same plan, the same penalties, the same language and the same healthcare in both plans. The republicans can continue to deceive and mis-label the ACA but the plan covers 30 more million people based on the same mechanisms in place, the same penalty for a portion of Americans who are called “Free Riders” that can chose to buy healthcare insurance but refuse, passing the higher costs on to the rest of Americans.
