Palin’s Drill Baby Drill-BP Oil Conflict of Interest

The chant that has become Sarah Palin’s moniker “drill baby drill” has more to do with her husband Todd Palin and BP Oil than reducing gas prices.

Sarah Palin believes that drilling in the ANWR area of Alaska and drill baby drill is the way to offset foreign oil dependency. This drill here in Alaska, and drill now, and drill baby drill has droned out the true relationships the Palins have with British Petroleum. The US economy at a glace indicates high oil prices have a negative impact on consumers and business. The addition of a pipeline will not bring immediate relief nor will it reduce gas prices at the pump.

The Palin’s are only another example of a major conflict of interest with BP Oil which has employed Todd Palin for 20 years. Mrs. Palin reports there is no conflict of interest although Mr. Palin tags along at events which include legislative meetings.

There should be no reason why Todd Palin attends government legislative meetings and his involvement in the Alaska Pipeline deal which brings great benefits and profits to his employer. This can only be construed as a major conflict of interest with big oil no matter how much Governor Palin tries to hide the truth from the public. This also conflicts with John McCain’s statements that he will “clean up” Washington, get rid of lobbyists, and stop pork barrel projects.

There should be no member of the Governor’s family attending meetings, and deriving employment from a company that she is lobbying for to build the pipeline. It has drawn attention especially with the abuse of power investigation report this week that indicates Todd Palin made a number of calls regarding the firing of his brother in law. Todd Palin seemingly is involved in the governing of Alaska as much as his wife the Governor.

Mr. Palin left BP oil just temporarily to show there was no conflict but then later returned to his position as a Production Operator a very short time later last year and is now on British Petroleums’ payroll again while Mrs. Palin has been yelling out “drill baby drill” at every stump speech she attends. The drill baby drill motto should be “conflict baby conflict”.

Meanwhile Sarah Palin called a special meeting last year to reduce Petroleum Profit taxes and by millions of dollars, which also benefits her husband’s employers’ the BP Oil company.

As with any employer who has a stake in the decisions made by spouses of their employees of course they will try to put influence peddling first, and forget about ethics which in this case puts the Palin’s action under suspicion.

The facts are there and the voters can decide where this is all headed as far as energy prices, drilling in Alaska will not bring gas prices down for the everyday consumer.
Pipelines cost big money and the oil companies greed will continue to see gas prices soaring again once the country recovers from a deep recession.

It appears that Sarah Palin puts ethics in government last, and her husband’s interests first to the detriment of the American taxpayer. It all makes the McCain Palin ticket less credible and deserving of their continuation in public office.
