There is just too much being made of Sarah Palin’s belief in dinosaurs and human existence these days. But as she was the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska all statements she has made in public, is at question in this Presidential campaign.
When Palin was elected Mayor of Wasilla a local music teacher reported she said to a teacher that dinosaurs lived on Earth as early as 6,000 years ago. This contradicts the date that scientists say dinosaurs died off and vanished.
Therefore Palin believes dinosaurs still existed 65 million years after they became extinct, which illustrates her strong religious beliefs in creationism.
Another instance was when Philip Munger in June 1997 asked the newly elected mayor about her religious faith. Governor Palin again stated “dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time”.
The Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin believes in a popular form of creationism, and in the “intelligent design” teachings of evolution in schools. Palin is an evangelical Protestant who is open to educating children about creationism in public schools. Creationism is a religious belief that the universe was created by a god is rejects evolution.
Intelligent design is the belief that some features of living things are better explained by an intelligent cause and the creation evolution is causing great controversy in public school teachings. The validity of religious based creation myths and scientific proof is a political argument that continues to be at odds in public schools in conservative regions of the United States. In other countries this argument is not present and it is also referred to as part of the “culture wars” as religion is being forced on the public education school system.
Palin’s claim that dinosaurs and humans walked the earth is based on her proof which is she has seen “pictures of human footprints inside the tracks” of prehistoric fossils. Sarah Palin’s personal beliefs that Puff the magic dragon lived long after scientists have proven that dinosaurs became extinct.
Is this more of the magically thinking that prevails Governor Palin’s candidacy for the second most important position in America?
John McCain choice of his Vice President could not have drawn more controversy than Gov. Sarah Palin and his judgment is at question when it comes to the evangelical religious beliefs of Sarah Palin. John McCain had to choose a candidate that satisfied the evangelical voters of the Republican Party and this was his strategy.
Voters have the right to form opinions of these theories of evolution by Governor Palin and what shapes her thinking and forms subsequent policies if she is ever in the position of being your next President.
The Palin McCain ticket as it is now called rather than the McCain Palin ticket is drawing criticism from non evangelical republicans who do not follow this religious belief of Sarah Palin, nor do many American voters who do not believe religion let alone Puff the magic dragon teachings belong in our elementary schools.
The upcoming debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin should include questions on Governor Sarah Palin’s religious belief system that affects any policies she may wish to include in the education system of our schools.
