May 14, 2010 The over the counter medicines of children’s common cold, allergy and cough medicines available to the consumer for 40 types including Tylenol and Motrin have been recalled by the FDA.
This voluntary recall has not revealed adverse reactions to these medications nor has it specified the reasons why these medications should not be taken and FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg has not been forthcoming with the facts. Hamburg is quoted as saying
” We want to be certain that consumers discontinue using these products”.

Motrin Children's Recalled By FDA -Ingredients are not Standard
For years these medications have been sold without testing, without warnings, and without standarized drug testing. The ingredients can be harmful no matter what the FDA says when the doses vary and are inconsistent with each dose or teaspoon of these medications.
Most often these medications violated one basic principal if you are to believe the FDA at all and that is a standarized dose. This translates to mean that you can give your child a cough syrup but each teaspoon full is different and has different quantities of the ingredients and that is a major issue.
In the past the FDA has not bother to monitor these doses and the active ingredients are not standardized and therefore can cause harm to your children but the FDA does not want to alarm you so you won’t continue buying these products. What should the FDA do in these cases is to pull them all off the market because they do not meet any standards and drug companies who profit from the products are not obeying the law.
The Recalled Brands are: Tylenol Infants’ Drops, Children’s Tylenol Suspensions, Children’s Zyrtec Liquids in Bottles, Children’s Benadryl Allergy Liquids in Bottles, Motrin Infant Drops, Children’s Motrin Suspensions, Children’s Tylenol Plus Suspensions.
For example : Children’s Zyrtec for Allergies contains : Cetirizine HCl
Side Effects of Cetirizine HCl: include diarrhea, nosebleeds, sore throat, wheezing, stomach pains, and there have been adverse reactions. This is a chemical which are formed with polyethylene glycol, titanium dioxide, silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate, and hypromellose. Polyethylene glycol is used in laxatives so why is it used in a child’s allergy medicine? No wonder kids are getting sick and having problems in their bowels. This PEG chemical can also be toxic and is used in some countries such as Stockholm as a wood preservative and not what you want to give to your children.
This is just one ingredient in one over the counter medicine directed to be sold to infants and children and the FDA has known this for years and yet allowed these products to be sold.
These are drugs even though they are sold over the counter without a prescription they represent big dollars for durg companies, and are sold in many countries without testing such as: Canada, Guatemala, Jamaica, Peurto Rico,Panama, Trinidad, Tobago, Kuwait, Domincan Republic, Fiji, Guam and Dubai amongst others. These countries are being targeted because they are easy to sell to and their governments do not do their own testing. Therefore the tests were not done prior to marketing these products and without proper testing they present a danger to the consumer and to children.
This includes all generic products of the same type included in the recall and those used for infants and children are especially a targeted group.
The world of medicine through the lack of testing and the lack of government controls over this industry namely the drug companies that take advantage of their relationships with the Food and Drug Administration has unfortunately developed into a buyer beware industry.
If you have these products in your medicine cabinet – throw them all out. Use common sense when a child has a cough, and that is to take vitamins, get plenty of fresh clean water, lots of sleep and fruits and vegetables that are not chemically sprayed or grown.
It is becoming a joke to try and find organic foods these days and foods for your children that are not chemicalized with pesticides, chemicals, genetically modified foods and science has entered the food chain and damaged whole healthy foods. This is all thanks to the US government agencies such as: FDA, CDC, and the Department of Agriculture.
It is not only the oil industry lobbyists which caused the BP Gulf Oil Spill but the campaign contributions accepted by the politicians to further their own gains while allowing the corporate take over of your government.
