To be a politician especially after the Supreme Court decision to allow corporations to contribute even more money to politicians campaigns and influence peddling. It is with the human frailty of greed and the heady scent of power that makes politicians the most corruptible job on earth.
First you have campaign dollars flowing into your coffers from corporations who buy favors and expect a return when you are supporting legislation where their profits increase. Or you have access to beautiful women working for you and your drunken drive for power sees you committing adultery. Your ego gets inflated with all the attention and the money keeps flowing in to your account.
What can an honest man to do with all this power, money and sex but to drown himself and remove all moral consciousness to fill this thirst for adulation and more power.
This is the life of a John Edwards now exposed to the world on 20/20 ABC News report that has his best friend Andrew Young turn on him in an expose which exposes the cover up of John Edwards and his new 2 year old baby. We say new because the girl was born 2 years ago and he just yesterday revealed that he was the father.
What do you say about a woman who like Rielle Hunter knew that John Edwards was a married man and with a family including his wife Elizabeth of many years who had cancer. Rielle targets Edwards partly for a job but mainly to get closer to him in a sexually charged advance that was apparently so strong that Edwards forgot his marriage vows.
What do you say about a wife who dutifully stood by her husband even though his ambitions preceded her health and well being and he hurt her in the most vicious way – infidelity of a long term marriage. In other explosive political tell all books recently Elizabeth is portrayed as a terribly angry woman with good reason. Even Elizabeth had to cover up her own angry feelings at the charade of her husband’s political ambitions even though she was undergoing chemotherapy. The announcement of their separation after 30 years of marriage was on January 27, 2010.
The money came from a rich heiress Rachael “Bunny” Melon who donated over $ 700,000 to the Edwards coffers as he diverted the funds to finance his mistress Rielle Hunter who was having his baby. Meanwhile according to Young after Edwards lost in the primaries in the 2009 and quit he was negotiating with Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton to be Vice President. Edwards is still under investigation for using campaign funds for personal use and the recklessness of this politician knows no bounds. The worst part of this whole sorted tale is that Edwards could have blown the election for the Democratic Party had this secret been revealed after he got the nomination for President.
Andrew Young recounted his story to the news media because he has a book out on the market called “The Politician” and has his own ambition to sort out. This is just another example of many politicians that have given way to greed, power and the seductiveness of politics and ambition which are inevitably contributes to their downfall.
