It did not take long for the Republicans to show their teeth at Justice Sotomayor’s first day of her baptism by fire for her nomination for Supreme Court Justice. You could say she has prepared for this moment all her life even with a fractured ankle -hobbling into the torture chamber-she looks good.
She looks like she deserves the job based on her Latino background and the ho hum…its about time feeling that not only another woman becomes a Judge- but a Latino Woman for the first time in history. But as this process is known for -it gets ugly sort of like a sorority or frat initiation party.
If you survive the initiation-then your tough enough to be a Judge on the holy court of public opinion.
Judge Sonia Sotomayor
Sadly the old white men on the Judicial Committee who purport to be experts on the law fail to impress us on their non-discriminatory comments that were aimed more at President Obama when he was voting on the Supreme Court Justice hearing for the conservative judge Roberts in the past. Orin Hatch who criticized Obama for holding up the nomination for Justice Janice Rogers Brown. As he continue to admonish the Democratic Party -Sonia sat quietly saddened by the words she was hearing.
Their digs fell on deaf ears because people are aware the Supreme Court is stacked with conservative male judges who favor corporations, who favor pro-life legislation and who favor conservative values of the past. One has only to recall these SC justices voted to disallow a vote recount in Florida which placed George Bush in the seat for a second term. There needs to be judicial reform and change before anyone has faith in the judicial soundness and integrity of the Supreme Court- whom have lost their value system in the past eight years. Round Two begins tomorrow.
