On December 30, 2009- Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper shut down his own government for a 3 month vacation.
In the midst of a recession for most Canadians Harper kills all legislation that was in progress and is expected to start stacking Conservatives in the Senate and appoint his long time friends.
The outrage of this move had angered opposition parties and especially the investigation of Canadians handing over afghan prisoners to the Afghan government which was suspected of torturing or abusing the prisoners. The current government has stopped all possible investigation of these claims by human rights groups in Canada.
Harper made the excuse that a new economic plan is being worked on but you do not shut down the government and pending bills until you stack your party with political favorites in the Canadian senate.
Other parties have called this an insult to democracy and a political scam. This amounts to avoiding investigation by the government itself while appointing conservative cronies in the Senate for political games which Harper had done a year ago.
