This story was previously reported in the Chicago Tribune about the drug company Astro Zeneca that paid a doctor over $ 500,000.00 that we know about to promote a psychiatric drug aimed at the Chicago poor, mentally ill and defenseless residents of nursing homes.

The doctor is one Michael Reinstein and we won’t call him a doctor here because he should have his license taken away from him but he was practicing psychiatry and doing research for Zeneca. We say practice because he was actually promoting a drug called Seroquel and doing research at the same time.
You the taxpayer paid over 7 million dollars for these drugs in Chicago. The Chicago Tribune Reports:
” Court documents show that AstraZeneca continued to pay Reinstein to promote Seroquel until 2007. A Reinstein ledger lists hundreds of payments beginning in 1997. The payments, in increments from $10 to $20,000, totaled $490,000.
During that period, Reinstein ordered Seroquel for as many as 1,000 Chicago-area Medicaid patients per year at a total cost of $7.6 million to taxpayers, records show.
” In an interview and in response to written questions, Reinstein said industry payments he has received for speeches and other engagements have had no bearing on his research results or patient care. He said he does not “accept any money from corporations to study their medications. This eliminates any possible conflicts of interest.”
But he does receive money from the Uptown Research Institute, a for-profit business that conducts industry- and government-funded studies on psychotropic drugs to help mentally ill patients.” Chicago Tribune.
AstraZeneca spokesman Jewell said the company wasn’t paying Reinstein to prescribe its drug but rather to make promotional speeches. Reinstein and AstraZeneca mutually declined to renew their ties in 2008, but Jewell would not say why. ”
Reinstein is accused of over-medicating and neglecting his patients and at the time he was supposed to be researching the drug -he was paid to do so very highly. So here you have a corrupted system where a drug company pays a doctor to do research and this crooked doctor over medicates some poor defenseless old people in nursing homes and then writes that this drug is effective and the research shows it works so well. This is how far drug company’s will go to get their drugs on the market however mistaken and fudged the research is on the drug.
The worst part is your government is using your money to pay for these drugs and helps to fund the research. You also have doctors who work as foot soldiers and do whatever drug companies dictate to them, fudging reports, approving and writing articles in journals about the research they are faking in order to sell more drugs.
It is coming to the point that people do not believe anything a drug company says anymore let alone they disbelieve the research behind the drugs now. Almost every major drug company from Wyeth, to Zeneca, to Baxter Drugs and all the others you can bet they are falsifying research, making untruthful claims. Furthermore drug company’s do not test their drugs for causing cancer and a whole host of other criminal activity and yet they are free to practice this breach of trust. Not only a breach of trust, but also where is the Federal Trade Commission on all of this criminal activity? No where to be found.

The FTC is too busy trying to charge small business owners for misleading advertising and yet drug company’s use fake testimonials with actors and actresses to push their drugs on the evening news every single night. Yes you see that Sally Field has had her Fosamax every month -but Sally Field forgets to tell you that she doesn’t really take that Fosamax because if she did -her jaw would be destroyed and her teeth would fall out. You see Fosamax has a strange side effect of destroying your jaw bone so your teeth will fall out. The drug company Wyeth drugs forever used Lauren Hutton to push its HRT drugs that cause breast cancer but Lauren Hutton didn’t tell you this in her television commercial.
So where is the FTC and why are they not clamping down on drug company’s for false advertising and criminal negligence in nor reporting the side effects of drugs? Why is it that the FTC is sleeping on the job when it comes to the health of Americans who are massively overly drugged and bombarded with drug ads. Why are these ads even allowed on all day long on TV, radio, print and any venue that can be used to advertise useless drugs.
